Book

I woke up, yesterday morning, desperately wishing that the dream I had just had was really a book. I knew that I would voraciously read it til the last word of the story because it would be amazing!!

Makes me feel like writing it but I don't think I would do it justice.

Early Diagnosis Possible?

There's a good article about possible earlier diagnosis of Sjogren's Syndrome, through the discovery of new antibodies, found at University of Buffalo.  You can read the article here.

Scarf Play; Busy Baby Resting Mommy

I just realized I forgot about my Busy Baby Resting Mommy post yesterday, so here it is today.

Scarves can provide so much fun for babies and toddlers. I'm not just talking about winter scarves.  I mean silky ones, rough ones, bandanas, wrap around scarves, and any other type you can get your hands on.  Which is a great FREE thing to do with how trendy they are right now.

You can play peekabo, make hats, bows, bracelets, necklaces, skirts, shirts, and eye patches for your kiddos. They is an endless amount of imaginative play for your and your child.  All while resting on the couch!

Comfy

I was feeling kind of crummy the other day. I really didn't want to get out of my comfy pants and long sleeved tee. I was going through my closet trying to find something that was comfy and yet still looked nice enough for work. So I came up with this... Please ignore the purple scribbling on the mirror. That's my girly's height chart. So we can take it with us wherever we move next. Anyway, again, here's what I came up with...

I was pretty happy with this outfit and will definitely be wearing it again! The blouse and sweater were both tee material, the leggings were super comfy, and the flat-soled boots did a good job keeping me warm. I could have even thrown a scarf on to make me even warmer if I had needed it!

This was the perfect outfit for a Sjogren's patient!!

The Harry Potter Post

A week or so ago we got an unexpected piece of mail on our doorstep....

We found this little guy with a birthday invitation. *(For those who do not know this is an owl, which are responsible for carrying letter for the people in the Harry Potter movies.) L absolutely FREAKED out because it looked like an official letter from Hogwarts (The school that Harry Potter attends.) It looked like this...

No, your vision is not going. I've just blurred out the names to protect our friend's identity.

One of our friends decided it would be a fun idea to send a response with more owls. So, I flew to the computer and had a blast coming up with some stuff for our friend A.

Our response
A newspaper found in the Harry Potter world.

Needless to say, our friend loved them!

Fast forward a few days and we decided to make butterbeer for us. Which is a drink that Harry Potter is fond of. We had it while we were at Universal Studios and liked it. I used this recipe found at Bakingdom . We loved it! Doesn't it look yummy??

Pretty

We went to Candy lane at Hershey Park the other night. It's basically a smaller portion of rides at Hershey Park opened, Christmas music playing everywhere, and decorations covering everything. It's simply magical for kiddos. I have many many fond memories of my own childhood spent there at Christmas time. In fact, these lights were decorations they had strung in the trees when I was a child. They also happen to be my favorite decorations in the park. :o)

Stained Glass Window; Busy Baby Resting Mommy

A fun Christmas-y craft to do with the kiddos is making some "stained glass windows".

What you need...
Tissue paper of various colors
Contact paper
Scissors (used by adult)

Directions...
1. Cut out two pieces of contact paper in the shape of a cathedral window.

2. Allow your child to cut tissue papers into 2x2 squares.  Or do this yourself if your child isn't old enough.

3. Place the squares on the sticky side of one of the pieces of contact paper.

4. Top it off with another piece of contact.

These are great to hang in windows. They make great designs on the floor when the sun shines through them. :o)

Glitter

I apologize for the no posting yesterday. I ended up working all day and was in a lot of pain by the time I got home. So no post. This morning I am feeling no better. Lots of pain in my hips and my bursitis is severely acting up. :o( So I am cheating and sharing a photo today instead of writing an actual blog post.

I felt like do something fun with my nails, this past weekend, and this happened. :o) I love the little touch of glitter!

Rudolph's Romp

I ran my very first 5K yesterday with one of my best friends. I wasn't sure that I would be able to do it. I was hesitant to try. I didn't have a time goal. Just the thought that I wanted to get through it and cross the finish line, thinking that worst case scenario if I didn't finish that the money would still be going to our library anyway.

M and I had to get a little festive for the occasion with reindeer antler-headbands and Rudolph noses.

My husband brought our girly out to cheer us on at the beginning of the race. She was very excited and kept shouting, "Go Rudolph Kristen go!!". I loved it and it meant a lot to me that she was there to cheer me on. She got to see that her Mama can do whatever she puts her mind to. Also, because I think it's important to teach her that giving back to the community can still be fun and a vital thing.

Somehow we managed to get lost while walking the race. The one turn happened to be a little tricky and we completely lost it. We ended up walking an extra eight minutes or so but got back on track then.

At the end of the race we rounded the corner and came into the parking lot. We were the last people in the race to hit the finish line. Literally. The. Last. People. As we were walking we, somehow, managed to hold up traffic and had a man yelling at us to hurry up and run so he could get going. Sheesh! Despite that we finished the race.

And our time? Under an hours time!! So, not only was I thrilled to be finishing but we finished in less than an hour. Can you say ecstatic? That's what we were!

Now I am sore sore sore. And tired. I think a good night's sleep will do me a world of good. I won't be rushing out to do another 5K any time soon. (Because there was just too much unknown with whether or not my Sjogren's would be acting up on the day of the race or now.) However, now I've proven to myself that I can!

Below are the before and after picture.

Take that Sjogren's Syndrome!!! :oP

Jole Crmis

Our love bug left this note for her Daddy the other evening and I had to share. This makes me happy!

In case you can't read it like me, it says....

"I love you Daddy. Have a jolly Christmas. Love L"

I'll, hopefully, be posting about my 5K experience tomorrow. :o)

Marble Painting; Busy Baby Resting Mommy

What you need...
Marbles
A cake pan (Preferably a tinfoil one to simply throw away once done.)
Paint
Paper

Directions...
1. Place paper on the bottoms of the cake pan. (You may need to cut it to size)

2. Put a few globs of paint in the middle of the paper. (More then one color can make some great color mixing)

3. Put the marbles in the pan and let your child roll the marble around the pan by tilting the pan from side to side.

**High supervision is needed for children who are prone to put choking hazards in their mouths.

Dragging

My butt is dragging today. I worked as a substitute, yesterday afternoon, after my usual lunch monitor job. I was feeling like all of my energy was drained yesterday. And today, no big surprise, I am feeling a little worse after working.

My plan is to rest for the next three days. Because I cannot be in a 5K feeling like this!! I'm not sure if I'll be able to follow through on my plan yet, or not, with a much needed grocery trip and caroling planned. We'll see.

Christmas Cookies

L and I spent Saturday morning making cookies. From prep to sprinkles she helped me with all of it. We ended up making nine dozen cookies. Yum!!

Love the flour all over my girly's face!

Our doggy girl Barre was being a vulture again. She was licking sprinkles off the floor. (I can never say that my dog doesn't do anything for me.) I didn't managed to get a picture of her back but it was spattered with flour.
We ended up giving a bag of cookies to our fantastic neighbor and to our mail man, like we do every year. Some of them went with us to our first family Christmas celebration. The rest got put into our cookie Christmas tin. Which I started as a new tradition in our house.

My mom and I would spend hours baking cookies when I was growing up. The goal was to fill up our Christmas tin to the top. (You know, like the kind that the flavored popcorn usually comes in.) So I decided to start doing that with L now that she's bigger. Yes, she's been helping me bake since she was one but now she's finally getting to an age that is actually helpful to me while baking. :o)

Next weekend I think we are going to make Hershey kiss cookies.

You can find the recipe here. (Which is also where I got the picture from.)

Antlers

I think I am ready for my Rudolph Romp 5K. Right? Now I just have to figure out what else I am wearing for the race! Not that I am actually "racing" since I plan on walking the 5K! I'm thinking layers.

And then I think I may have to wear the antlers, in the cafeteria at school, just for fun!

Drums; Busy Baby Resting Mommy

With the weather getting colder and it being the holidays a great thing to do with the kiddos is make drums.

What you need...
Pots
Pans
Spoons made of different materials ie; metal, plastic, wood

This idea might not be good for sensitive ears or those prone to headaches.  Otherwise let your little sprout bang away on the pots and pans.  And now they are little drummer boys, from the Christmas song, this could keep them happy for hours!

Parent's Law

One thing I've learned recently...
Parent's (Murphy's) Law for girls... Your daughter never realizes that she misplaced that little Barbie utensil, My Little Pony accessory, or Polly Pocket shoe..... Until you've swept it up in a nice little pile that she suddenly has to ferret through, along with all the dirt and dust bunnies, that gets randomly scattered across the floor all over again!

Chocolate World

Chocolate World has gone festive right now! Not that I am at all surprised by this since Candy Lane (at Hershey Park) has been open since before Thanksgiving!!

L and I decided to go to Chocolate World for our last day home before school started back up.

We wandered back behind the ride area and found a house completely made of chocolate and candy. I don't know why this should surprise me since Hershey is the, well, Hershey! I added a few pics of my favorite parts...

Sweet dreams!!

What Am I Thinking?!?

Have you ever had one of those moments when you are doing something, and literally, as you are doing it your brain is screaming at you? What? Are? You? DOING??

Yup. I've just had one of those moments.

I've just signed up for my first ever 5K. Yes, you read that right.

In my defense I plan on walking the whole thing. With a couple of friends who know about my health issues and will be completely supportive.

And it's for a really good cause. The library in our town has lost all it's budgeted funding for the coming year. So the town has decided to have a Reindeer Romp to help raise money for the library. See? Good cause! I love reading so I would hate to see the library close!

When I was first reading about this I completely disregarded it because of my health. However, after seeing that I am walking almost two miles, at work, every day I decided to try and go for it. Fortunately, the route is through mostly flat road according to their pdf info. So, hopefully, I will have no problem and sail through this with no issues! Fingers crossed, that I don't collapse pitifully along the route somewhere and that I can stay warm enough in the middle of December.

Another reason for doing this is

I am hoping that this will be a lot of fun with quite a bit of holiday cheer involved. Which is very possible with the two other ladies that are going to be walking with me!

I'll keep you posted!

Toilet Paper Snowstorms

In honor of the begining of December, I give you....

Toilet paper snow storms!!

What you need...
Toilet paper
Small baby pool (Or something that will semi contain the toilet paper. I say "semi" because, let's be honest you could put a kiddo in a tiny windowless room and they would still find a way to make a little bit of a mess!)

Directions...
1. Plunk your sweetie down in the middle of a baby pool.  It doesn't really matter where the pool is. The living room, dining room, bedroom, wherever is fine.

2. Hand them a roll of toilet paper and let them go to town! This seems so simple.  That's the beauty of it, it is so simple and will give your kiddos lots of entertainment Wrap them up like a mummy, give them fancy hats, clothes, or simply let them rip it to pieces.

3. Now sit back and relax! Once all the fun has been had the toilet paper will hopefully be contained in the pool and make clean up fairly simple.

Numbers Fun!

For those of you who didn't get to see my post on Facebook. Here is my day in numbers, from yesterday...

My day in numbers....
6,000 copies made during my time volunteering this morning.
4,694 steps taken in a three hours time during lunch time.

1 bump on my girly's head, during her lunch break, that needed kissed better. (She was lucky enough to get one from myself and her teacher.)

I was exhausted when I got home!!! I crashed on the couch and didn't get up again until I had to get L off the bus.

Oh! Here's another number for you... 30... As in, I am down 30 pounds now since April! Yay!
